Greece has decided on a new finance minister, after Vassilis Rapanos, had to leave the position due to health reasons. The new finance minister will be Yannis Stouranaras, who is a very respected economist and originally took part in the negotiations for Greece’s entry into the euro. Mr Rapanos sudden resignation threw the government off balance for a second, but it seems that Mr. Stounaras, who is nicknamed “Mr. Euro” in Greece, will be an excellent choice, to lead Greece to salvation. Hopefully there won’t be another sudden resignation.
A new member is coming on board at Facebook, and by board, I mean the board of directors – Ms. Sheryl Sandler, who is the COO of Facebook has just been appointed, to join the board of directors, as the first and only woman, to take a board seat at the social network. This is coulf be an important move for Facebook as pressure was mounting to dilute its male dominated board. Ms. Sandberg. Who is 42 yeard old, and who is married with two children, is leading by example, to show women around the world, that you can have it all, especially when you are worth 1.4 billion dollars, from 44 million Facebook shares she holds.
And talking about facebook. When you go to your individual about section today, you will notice that your e-mail address is showing to be, whatever your name is, @facebook.com. Yeah Facebook just went ahead and changed that for us, without asking for permission, and apparently a lot of people are mad about it. The e-mails you would get through this address, would go into your inbox on Facebook, a smart move, as Facebook is trying to drive traffic to its site, and subsequently generate more advertising fees. A smart move sure, but a little too secretive for my taste…We love you Facebook, but don’t mess with us!
The global auction house Christie’s announced that they will be launching a series of online auctions, featuring rare and fine wines, this auction follows the successful online auction of The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor, which brought in 9.5 million dollars, and the Hermes hangbag auction, that brought it 229,000 dollars. The exclusive wine auction will include such rarities as the ’82 Lafite and Latour, Magnum bottle of fine champagne and more similar delicacies. Christie’s is estimating to bring in a total of 750,000 dollars from these sales.
