Bad news for Toyota owners, as Japan’s biggest car maker, is recalling more than 7.4 million vehicles worldwide. This time a faulty power window switch is posing a potential fire hazard. This is the biggest single recall since Ford pulled 8 million vehicles off the road in 1996 to replace defective ignition switches that could have caused engine fires. Toyota has been struggling to rebuild its reputation for some time now and this recall is definitely not helping things, but safety first!

Good and bad news for fans and supporters of the Russian Punk Rock band Pussy Riot! A Moscow court has freed one of the convicted women from the band, but has not lifted the two-year jail terms for the other two girls. Yekaterina Samutsevich is the lucky chosen one to leave jail, because her lawyer had successfully argued, that Samutsevich had been thrown out of the cathedral by guards, before she could remove her guitar from its case for the band’s anti-Putin “punk prayer”. So it all comes down to technicalities unfortunately. Originally Samutsevich, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, were found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred”. The girls have since then argued, that this was a political act and not an anti-religious act.to demonstrate that the church has become the lap dog to Putin.

Two US researchers have nabbed the Nobel Prize for chemistry honoring their work in revealing how the cells of our body sense their environment. Robert Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka are sharing the $1.2 million reward, for their researchers in understanding how our cells’ protein receptors reach through the cell walls, to communicate in sending signals to other cells – a process that essentially regulates our entire human physiology, connecting us to the outside world through our sense of smell, taste and vision. Congratulations to both Mr. Lefkowitz and Mr. Kobilka.

And speaking of human physiology, please try to avoid eating live cockroaches. A man just lost his life, right after winning a contest in South Florida, where he ate dozens of the insects and worms. The cause of death is not determined yet, but he may have been allergic to either bug or worm, say media reports for now. In any case – if you do have the need for new experiences, do make sure you are not allergic to whatever you decide to put in your mouth.
